Call Me Grandpa?!
One day,
I lay
Exhausted,
With my
New love,
Begging for
Sleep.
My new
Daughters
Waited outside
Our door,
Begging for
Something.
We yelled
"Leave
Us alone!"
A knock on
The door
Interrupted our
Desperate plea
For sleep,
And yet another
New daughter
Had arrived with
Her children.
She sat at my
Computer, while
Her daughter
And son played
Loudly with
My new
Younger girls.
I slumped in
The only chair,
In the corner,
And did my
Best to ignore
All the noise.
I shook
My head, in
Disbelief, and
Tried to
Remember where
I was.
That lovely
Blond at my
Computer was
My new, grown
Daughter, and
Her children
Were my
Grandchildren?
I suffered
An identity crisis
That night, after
A lifetime of
Knowing my
Own name.
I shook
My head,
Drank a soda,
And tried not
To be
Too grumpy.
I sat
Silent, unmoving
On the chair,
As they called
"Grandpa this,
And
Daddy that."
And, then
Suddenly
I realized
Just who
I was!
I was still
Tired,
And grumpy,
But I also
Smiled!
